MUSIC FOR GUITAR
David Roche is a guitarist as well as a composer! Starting is rock bands in South Wales, he gradually just started playing... well... basically everything he could. From the technical, exposed sweep picking of COPYPASTA the demisemiquaver three against two tremolo of The Harp of Wales, to the wild, finger-blistering Uncle Dave's Jigg, there's a huge array of powerful and exciting music available to play.
The Harp of Wales (2020)
Commissioned by the National Library of Wales.
First performed 10/08/2020 by David John Roche as part of the National Library of Wales’ Unlocking our Sound Heritage series (online).
Tremolo Study 4 (2015)
A beautiful and steady study in E major - it nearly goes off the edge of the guitar!
Tremolo Study 6 (2015)
A precursor the The Harp of Wales, this piece drop tunes the guitar to give the bass a wider melodic range.
Uncle Dave's Jig (2016-20)
A whoosy load of fun for guitar quintet. This won a few awards online back in the day - it was one of my first pieces to start winning prizes.
Tremolo Study 5 (2015)
Described as 'Exquisite [...] beautifully realised', 'Beautiful tremolo, beautiful piece'- Adam Walton, BBC Introducing Wales on Tremolo Study 4
Performed by the composer at the 2020 Online Vale of Glamorgan Festival.
Copypasta (2020)
A study in sweep picking with a quote from Yngwie Malmsteen at the end. Do it if you dare!
David writes a seriously wide range of music - it's not all notated, it's not all classical, but it is all him!
